I'll begin with the administration. This was easily the part of the school that least bothered me. The secretaries were generally very nice, the counselors were helpful about future classes (which eventually wasn't needed), and the principal "John Doe" didn't affect me either way as I think I only chatted with him once. That's where anything that didn't nag or invigorate me ended.
Finally, the students (really, the student-athletes). This was pretty much the reason I'm now enrolled at Mt Michael for the 2017-18 school year. A good chunk of these kids (mostly boys) were boring, acted unintelligent on purpose, were involved in cliques, and only cared about themselves and their athletic "careers". Each day I'd hear one or two racial and many sexual slurs. With most students being white and conservative, this doesn't seem far-fetched. It was obvious who the outcasts were (me being one at times), and for whatever reason, the ignorant and popular kids would sometimes point them out.
The school's principal, Mark Kalvoda, even tried calling my dad to get me to remove this review. Don't try to improve anything, just block out any criticism, I'm sure that will work well for you Mark.
Besides many students just being boring and mean people, the rest of ESHS is fine and nothing too different from other schools
this place sucks. if you care about your loved ones mental and physical health don't send them to this joke of a high school... enough said
I'm a junior and have gone here since freshman year. This school is a horrible environment for learning. The administration cares only about their students getting good test scores and their sports teams performing well. They care very little about legitimate education. The student body is incredibly immature and disrespectful and for being in one of Nebraska's "top schools" they are very ignorant and know surprisingly little. Most of the teachers have very little experience and don't know what they're doing and several of them have terrible methods of "teaching" that should get them fired. In addition to that, the lunches provided by this school are extremely unsatisfying and nowhere near filling, and they cost a ridiculous price for being this way. And this last part isn't too important but the parking lot is a mess and could've been designed better by a preschooler. It seriously sometimes takes 15 to 20 minutes just to leave the parking lot.
This school's lunches are disgusting, unhealthy, expensive, and in no way filling. For some reason this school likes doing everything in the most inconvenient way possible and the administrators do not care at all about the interests of students, they just care about their school and making it look good. One of the water fountains broke more than a year ago and it is still not fixed, and there was a point in time in which there was no toilet paper in one of the bathrooms for a whole week. Aside from the staff being incompetent, the students here are obnoxious to say the least and this school does not provide an environment that is suitable for learning. Please do not send your students here.
First off, before I walked into my first class, my assumption was that the teaching would be superb, the students nice yet sometimes uninteresting and arrogant. All of those those assumptions were somewhat correct in my case. The order will go from best to worst.
Next up, the teaching staff. Nothing that would make me transfer here, but there were little things. Most of the teachers were very young which helped and hurt. The teachers were for the most part very nice yet inexperienced. My English teacher, Ms. Rock, was fantastic and certainly gave you the most life experiences. That was a big kicker in my opinion. The teachers could teach the content well, but didn't really give life experiences help a student get something extra out of their classes. Like the administration, nothing really bad here as I truly liked the personalities of many teachers at ESHS.
I keep adding to this review because I keep seeing messed up stuff happen here. The staff has mentally disabled students do work and tasks, like taking out recycling and putting up chairs. Whenever I see these students they're always carrying something or doing some kind of work, with a teacher following and not doing any work. It disgusts me and makes me question what kind of education these students are receiving, if any. If you have a mentally disabled student, I can guarantee you that there are better places for them than this school.
I forgot to add this but also the administration is horrible at dealing with punishing students and they pick favorites. They do not treat everyone fairly. Please for the sake of your children do not send your children to this school.
Just wanted to add this because I think it's important to note something about my pre-calculus teacher, Jeffrey Smith. I asked to go to my locker one day to get my textbook so I could work on an assignment and he responded back with "why would today be any different?" in a very rude tone and when I asked him if there was a problem with me going to my locker he responded in a disrespectful and intentionally antagonizing way with a very smart alecky remark. I forgot what exactly he said, but I was having a bad day and was tired of that kind of stuff so I began to walk out of the classroom. I was just gonna go to the office, but Mr. Smith followed right behind me yelling at me and he kept trying to antagonize me. This is very poor behavior from a teacher and it's just immature. Mr. Smith is not the only teacher at this school that does stuff like this though. Ms. Zuniga, who probably has a different name by now because she married, is a spanish teacher here. One day she was wrong about something, I forgot what exactly. Anyway, I pointed it out and corrected her, explaining why she was wrong. She just flat out ignored it and continued like she was never wrong at all and nothing happened. This happened more than just once. If a school has teachers that are so immature and arrogant that they can't just let a student get his textbook from his locker to work on an assignment that they assigned and teachers that can't even accept when they're wrong how can this possibly be a suitable environment for learning? Teachers have to be understanding, but that just isn't a trait that's common among teachers at this school.
I just transferred after my freshman year from this school. Some of the reasons why I chose to left could have been avoided by choice but many were from things out of my control.
Even though I am the school principal, I am reviewing the school with a 2/5 because of the over glorified Security Guard. Officer Pickles has been with the school district for some time now, but only recently started becoming an even bigger cow than normal. One time, I was trying to leave the school a few minutes early to beat the rush of students. Officer Pickles drives up to me while I was walking to my car and tells me to get back into the building or I will lose my "Privilege". I told him that I didn't care, and then proceeded to my vehicle. The next day, I get handed a detention slip for being disrespectful. I hate the school cop as much as I hate myself, and trust me when I say that nobody hates me as much as I do. Anyway, aside from the cop, the lunches are horrible as well as the people I work with. I want to die. I want to pass through the light and enter heaven with my dog.
