My boyfriend and I brought his dog here at 10:45 on a Friday night. The staff was super genuine and nice. The only draw back was that we had to wait almost an hour and a half to see the doctor. Granted, it was an odd time and a busy night. The price for the whole visit was good. Overall I enjoyed my experience there and would go again.
Admittedly I have not visited this establishment, however I called them the other night when my rat terrier was dying.
I came in Friday early morning with my jack Russell Archie who had injured his back left leg. I work full time as registered nurse and nurse and I had such a rough night with lost of patients. I was so exhausted and sad that my little buddy was hurting and the staff at VCA Midwest was absolutely incredible. Dr. H and her crew made me smile and treated my pooch so well! Usually I BEG to come back with my dog because we both have some separation anxiety but in less than 15 minutes I knew the staff was so dog savvy and completely trusted them to keep my guy calm and take care of him (he was only gone for a half hour but we are such babies about our animals). I am so beyond impressed with the care and knowledge everyone passed on to me and it was so wonderful that they listened to my account of Archie's past medical history and what meds have and haven't worked for him since I had forgotten his medical file at home. I left completely satisfied with the care we received and will for sure be promoting this office to all my animal friends. Thank you so much for everything you do!
Arrived @ 11:15 am Christmas day, 2 others in lobby waiting ahead of me. 11: 25 in room talking to tech. Told her what was going on with my 11 year old Yorkie. Same symptoms as she has had in the past 11 years which was treated by antibiotics. She also told me it would be a few minutes and the doctor would be in. An hour an half later the doctor comes in said he was sorry but there had been a critical patient he had to see. After visiting with the doctor he had two proposals which included keeping her overnight and all the other tests done. I told him I just needed the medication of an antibiotic to treat her symptoms and I would take her to my regular vet the next day. He said okay fine and he would be back with the proposals. I don't need proposals I need an antibiotic I know what treats her symptoms. Couple minutes later at Tech comes in and takes my Yorkie to be weighed. Brings her back to the room and says it'll be a few more minutes. 10 or 15 minutes later she returns with two printed proposals. After I had already told the doctor my decision of his two proposals to just get the medication and go and take her to my regular vet the next day. By this time I am so boiling mad I've wasted two and a half hours in this little room. At which time I said I'm through I don't want anything I will take her to my regular vet tomorrow and nurse her through the night. They still charge me $105 for the visit and I took no medication home. Very dissatisfied with this place and I will not return.
I would sooner take my dog to a friend's farm and put her down with love and respect.
I explained the symptoms and asked about euthanasia. I was offered a treatment plan. There is no treatment for death. I asked again and was quoted fees for an exam, the injection, and cremation options. The costs were triple what my vet would charge.
The dog they offered to treat died less than 10 minutes after I called. My vet is relatively sure it was coronary failure.
I can't thank the wonderful, compassionate staff enough for the outstanding care they provided to my beloved black lab! She presented with a large mass on her spleen, and all of the staff at the VCA MidWest Veterinary Referral & Emergency Center went above and beyond their job duties to provide the best possible care to my dog both during and after surgery to remove her spleen. My dog is like my child to me, so I was a nervous wreck throughout the whole process, but everyone involved in her care made sure that I was always aware of how she was doing the entire time she was at their clinic. Not only did they take the time to talk to me in the lobby multiple times, but they also took the time to send me text messages with pictures of my dog to show me how she was doing. That was great! That really helped relieve some of my anxiety and not keep me guessing about her status. I am very grateful to all of the employees at this clinic, and I highly recommend them to anyone needing either emergency care or specialized veterinary care for their pet.
